WELCOME TO WHERE TO MUSIC TAKES ME ![]()
Hey there folks and welcome to the 2006 edition of “WHERE THE MUSIC TAKES ME”: My little ole place in the vast world of the “Internet”. For those of you who are familiar with the site please bear with me while I state the purpose and my method of presenting information to those who are just beginning their exposure to me.

I guess to begin with a bit of personal history is appropriate for those who are wondering who, how, what and why? To begin with I’ve been involved in the music biz since the age of five. You know the usual, piano lessons, clarinet lessons, choir and chorus followed by and with voice lessons. Then came adolescence and you know the routine, a band here, a pageant there. All of which ended with age and responsibilities. Around 1989 I became involved in shag and helped form a local club with my wife (a native Carolinian) who had done the dance long before its systematization. Anyway, together we taught folks, traveled to increase our personal skills and added to a rather large music collection that I had been collecting since year one. Ultimately 1989 saw me go from a collector to a working DJ. As a working DJ I frequently had people asking about certain tracks that I’d mechanically manipulated in some fashion in order to make it usable for dancers. They’d return sometime later saying that their version didn’t sound like my version. So it dawned on me that the public needed to know about songs that required manipulation, while at the same time it occurred to me that they also needed to know when an album contained only one track. Additionally, since I was going to identify specific usable tracks…well I just had to add in a comment here and there… Afterall my continued musical involvements lead to some critical ears…. So I began to write reviews on Beach, Boogie and Blues tracks that shaggers and swing dancers could read on the First website of The Association of Beach and Shag Club DJs and The National Association of R N B DJs. I was the resident critic for both sites and their Webmaster for several years during which time my presence sort of grew. As a result I was invited to write a bi-monthly column for several entertainment magazines that are and were published and distributed in the Carolinas and Georgia. Additionally, I am a contributing Editor of the “Delta Snake Blues Reviews and have written for several other music related magazines as a music critic. I’ve been a member of the CAMMY AWARDS ACADEMY and am presently an active member of The BEACH MUSIC ASSOCIATION INTERNATIONAL. Additionally, I’m an artist consultant for EMN Records as well as I continue to be a traveling DJ. Which means, I Travel from Coast to Coast playing the music that we all love …Blues, Bop, Beach and Soul in competition and play ole fun parties. And finally but certainly not least I’m heard on several syndicated Blues and Beach radio shows on the internet and in the air waves as the resident critic….. And perhaps comic relief…. Finally I’m involved in several festivals and music events both as a producer and a foot soldier … so I see all ends of the biz.
As far as the content of this site I must confess it is all me. So if
you have problems with anything feel free to express your opinion. I always
accept positive criticism.
That
includes comments on or about my reviews, which have been known to stir up a
little smoke from time to time. But remember one thing, my reviews are my
opinion and are based on years of experience which doesn’t make them more
right or wrong. It just means that that I can usually backup my critics
with real data. Additionally, you’ll find a page entitled Commentary. And
that my friend is exactly what it is, my comment about anything and
everything that catches my attention. Items or concern, praise or
whatever, that may strike my fancy. This area too has generated more than
one fire. It is updated about every two months, where as the reviews are
updated monthly. Another page that you’ll have fun with is entitled “Bits &
Pieces: A collection of random issues ranging from pure gossip to actual
things that are happening or have happened. Finally, you’ll find a bands
page that I add new groups and artists to as I become aware of them. There
are other pages but you can read or else you would not be here. So scroll
on down and check out the site. You just might find something of interest
or perhaps something that just makes you smile or frown…… whatever. …In any
case enjoy this work. In case you get the wrong idea, this is not all
work. Below you will find a picture of me giving an interview to a
reporter at Beach Music Day in Columbia, April 2004….Now why this young lady
wanted to talk with me I have no idea but …I never miss an opportunity to
express my opinion …and well this was one of those times.
That's Me in the Hat!
